World Cancer Day, 2024


According to the Union for International Cancer Control, Cancer is explained as a disease that causes changes in a group of normal cells, within the body leading to uncontrolled and abnormal growth, with a lump-like formation known as a tumor, Cancers at different localized areas in the body are referred to with different peculiar names, at the breast it is known as Breast cancer, stomach areas are referred to as Peptic Ulcers and many more. This definition is however different for leukemia, A blood type of Cancer. Cancers are one of the leading causes of death in the 21st Century, If left Untreated, it has the capacity to spread from the localized area throughout the body and cause malfunctioning of other body systems which clinically manifests as Death.

The World Cancer Day Celebration

World cancer day is a global uniting initiative held by the UICC Union for International Cancer Control, It is held every 4th of February and is a prior event used to raise global awareness, Improve education, and catalyze personal, collective, and government action. This day is globally dedicated to closing the care gap in Cancer.

A Partnering Opportunity

Showers Community Health And Widows Foundation In line with its commitments, to focusing on community health, Partnered with the mother body in Nigeria, Project Pink Blue to celebrate World Cancer Day in Nigeria 2024. This program was held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, and it was held as a two-day event, the first day was mapped out for Health Outreach and Diagnosis, where different Other partnering bodies including Showers Foundation, IHVN (Institute for Human Virology Nigeria), NNRA(Nigerian Nuclear regulatory Authority) and others. The Foundation (Showers Foundation) Carried out TB estimations/Diagnosis at the Saturday Outreach. The second day of the event was a conference where dignitaries and select delegates discussed the effects of Cancer, Economic tax, and the withdrawal of pharmaceutical companies from Nigeria.
